Blurb:
When you finally meet the monster hiding under your bed.
One, two, I’m coming for you.
She’s my obsession.
Three, four, kneel on the floor.
I want to possess her in every way.
Five, six, I’m up to my old tricks.
She knows me as The Portland Serial K!ll3r.
Seven, eight, lay in wait.
Little does she know I’m watching her.
Nine, ten, never to be seen again.
Welcome to your worst nightmare, Little Lamb. Who am I? Let me introduce myself. I’m Death. And I have found my Queen. Ella McCloud you’re the flicker of light in my dark, dark world. The color in my grayscale existence. I yearn for you like the night yearns for the stars. **Dear readers, this dark romance contains multiple POVs, multiple storylines, and many exciting moving pieces that come together in one satisfying and unexpected HEA. If you enjoy a single storyline, this book might not be for you.
** In the Shadows is a dark, age gap romance standalone with an unhinged hero. Check TW/CW and tropes on the author's website.
The Good:
* My first Five Star read of the year and of course it’s a J.A. Owenby book. I should have read this book right when it was published but I was drowning in ARCs at the time. I have an ARC of the sequel waiting for me and I am so very excited to read it after finishing this book!
* What I love about a J.A. Owenby dark romance is the plot. Her books are always incredibly plot heavy. It’s like reading a thriller/dark romance mashup.
* The plot shines but there is no shortage of smut here.
The Meh:
* The multiple POVs were a little confusing to track at times, I did have to go back and reread a few things but I really don’t care. I’d read this book again in a heartbeat.
Bottom Line:
I wish I could read this again like it was the first time. I was on the edge of my seat with the plot, there was tons of dark romance smut if that’s your vibe (it’s definitely mine), and so many unhinged things happening all of the time. I read the kindle book on KU and then I bought the paperback & audiobook on audible, I had to have all of the versions. I didn’t want to stop reading this book and I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel.
